Scenic Nature Cruises in Northeast Harbor, Maine

A very reasonably priced and wonderful afternoon. The Acadian has a light (cash only) snack bar, clean restrooms and an indoor heated cabin. However, dress warmly as it is MUCH cooler on the water, even on a hot, sunny day! The Acadian is handicap-accessible and pet-friendly to friendly pets. See the Great Harbor of Mount Desert, visit a fishing community on Islesford, and visit the cliffs of Valley Cove in Somes Sound Fjord.

The boat itself was stable, clean, and well maintained. It had flaps to protect from high winds and sea spray, but you are allowed to open the flaps as you want. I am someone who can get seasick easily, but I did not feel even the bit queasy. Kids and adults alike enjoyed this tour and it was very interactive.

Sail aboard a classic Friendship sloop or a real Maine lobster boat for a private or shared tour of Maine’s most beautiful coastline along Mount Desert Island. We lucked out with perfect weather and totally enjoyed this cruise. Our tour guide, Mike, was knowledgeable and really interesting. He showed us eagles, seals, and other creatures.

Sail Acadia National Park aboard a traditional Friendship Sloop – Maine’s original lobster boat! Built in Friendship, Maine in the late 1800’s, these handsome traditional sailboats were used by coastal fishermen to haul lobster traps by hand under sail. Take part in Maine’s maritime heritage and enjoy sailing smooth waters, abundant wildlife and spectacular coastline of Acadia National Park. On this cruise you will have the chance to experience some of the most scenic views of Acadia! Our boats cover many miles of shoreline-visiting a number of unique places amongst the coastal islands, bays, and harbors.

Watch our experienced fisherman haul in lobster traps, then head off to a small island to view seals basking on the rocks. This cruise was very enjoyable and accompanied by a knowledgeable and interesting ranger. Saw white tailed eagle, seals and harbor porpoises on our trip. We have four boats, the Acadian, the Islander the Eden Star AND our six-passenger private charter boat — the  Rambler.

Our Bar Harbor cruises are clean and family-oriented and the Acadian & Eden Star are pet-friendly! The boats offer a small snack bar, restrooms, and the large boats also have a heated, indoor cabin. However, please bring a warm jacket or sweater with you on all of our cruises, as temperatures on the water are cooler than they are on shore. Facing my fears to experience everything I have always wanted to do. We saw whales, seal, bald eagles and amazing scenery. This trip includes an extended viewing of Petit Manan Lighthouse on one of only seven islands in Maine where endangered Atlantic puffins nest.

Join us as we explore the waters of Mount Desert Island and beyond to enjoy spectacular views of historic lighthouse, coastal islands, and Acadia National Park. This cruise can feature a variety of wildlife including harbor and grey seals, bald eagles, and seabirds. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of coastal Maine with a fully narrated cruise of Frenchman Bay and the Bar Harbor shoreline. Our Acadian Nature Cruises leave daily from the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel in search of eagles, porpoises, seals, and other interesting marine mammals and birds. You’ll also see historic mansions and the Egg Rock lighthouse.

At Sail Acadia we maintain and operate our locally built wooden boats with a great respect for Maine’s maritime heritage. We believe in smaller groups and personalized attention for an authentic boating experience in Acadia. Our captains and crew will share their local knowledge and give you their best tour of Mount Desert Island. The host was informative, had a nice sense of humor, and was always willing to answer questions. The crew was fantastic and went out of their way to find whales.
